Collection: Green Aurora
The aurora forms when charged particles from the Sun — primarily electrons carried by the solar wind — travel across space and interact with Earth’s magnetic field. Earth’s magnetosphere channels these particles toward the polar regions. The electrons collide with oxygen atoms in the upper atmosphere. When the atoms return to lower energy states, they emit a vivid green wavelength. The same Sun that provides warmth and daylight also sends invisible streams of charged particles through space.
