Collection: Green Coast

Along steep tropical coasts, coral reefs grow in sunlit, moderate-depth water. The water often appears to be 'teal' since it is deep enough to absorb red light but not so deep it gets lost in deep blue.  And it is here that reef life is often most complex and abundant. Coral reefs are intimately connected to the continental shelf, often forming on its outer edges or along coastlines. These shelf-edge reefs serve as critical barriers, geological records of past sea levels, and habitats for diverse marine life that rely on these productive, shallow, and warm-water environments. These areas create highly productive ecosystems, supporting diverse habitats like lagoons and seagrass meadows alongside coral reefs.
